You\u2019ll then have to set up a feature update deferral.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Using an administrator account, click Start &gt; Settings &gt; Update &amp; Security. Then click Advanced Options at the bottom. The feature update deferral setting specifies the number of days that Windows Update should project forward, to land on your chosen update version.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6984\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"124\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>(Image source: <a href=\"https:\/\/images.idgesg.net\/images\/article\/2019\/11\/1809-sac-240-100819135-medium.jpg\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">ComputerWorld.com<img class=\"extlink-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/external-links-nofollow-open-in-new-tab-favicon\/images\/extlink.png\"><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re using Windows 10 1803 or 1809, choose Semi-Annual Channel and a feature update deferral of 180 days. This will take you to a Windows 10 Pro version that has a \u201cDownload and install now\u201d offer to upgrade to 1909. Don\u2019t accept this offer (we\u2019ll explain why, in a moment).<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>What you should do is wait \u2014 and not click \u201cCheck for updates.\u201d Within a few days, you should be upgraded to version 1903.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2>A Word About 1909<\/h2>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Windows 10 1909 is the successor to 1903, and you\u2019d think that this should mean bigger (or smaller), and better. But this is Windows 10 we\u2019re talking about, and things are never that simple.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While 1909 retains the \u201cpause updates\u201d feature of 1903, it also features <a href=\"https:\/\/www.computerworld.com\/article\/3510463\/bugs-continue-to-haunt-win10-version-1909.html\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">a couple of major flaws<img class=\"extlink-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/external-links-nofollow-open-in-new-tab-favicon\/images\/extlink.png\"><\/a>. The first has affected several users, whose machines wake up every day at unscheduled hours, and remain on, despite any sleep times set up in the Power &amp; Sleep setting.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-6985\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"436\" height=\"340\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2.jpg 436w, https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/06\/2-300x234.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 436px) 100vw, 436px\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The second bug affects all users, and freezes the search bar in an updated File Explorer that (in theory) allows you to quickly preview the search results from local disks and OneDrive. It also disables the right-click function in File Explorer, and prevents users from pasting text in the search bar with the mouse.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>If you follow the steps laid out above, you can safely migrate to Windows 10 version 1903, and have the luxury of waiting for some or all of these problems to be ironed out.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 As with Win 10 Home, Windows 10 Pro users (who include Education, Enterprise, and other subscribers) should begin by making a system backup.
