Actually, let\u2019s face it, they will have uttered them hundreds of times. So well known is this response that it was a catchphrase in the brilliant UK comedy series <i><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_IT_Crowd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">The IT Crowd<img class=\"extlink-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/external-links-nofollow-open-in-new-tab-favicon\/images\/extlink.png\"><\/a><\/i>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">However, today we are not looking at the standard responses to the myriad questions that flood helpdesks around the world. Instead we are going to bring you five of the funniest and most frustrating problems that support staff have had to field and their sometimes-amusing comebacks, in their own words. We have kept the storytellers\u2019 names anonymous so as not to invite any backlash, but we hope you will enjoy them.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>#1 Eject, Eject<\/b>!!<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cA man came in with a PC he had bought from our store, claiming the machine was broken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cI can\u2019t get the disc out, I have tried butter knives, screw drivers, pliers, NOTHING will work,\u201d and he demanded a refund.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">I calmly said to him: \u201cHave you tried the eject button?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cWhat eject button?\u201d he responded, as I pointed towards it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">The look on his face was priceless, while he began to realize that with all of his poking and prodding, the machine was now actually broken.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>#2 Clean the lines!!<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cThis incident occurred at a previous employer. It was not an outrageous complaint, but was more an example of how incompetent users can be.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" size-full wp-image-4126 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/printer.png\" alt=\"printer\" width=\"185\" height=\"185\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/printer.png 185w, https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/09\/printer-150x150.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 185px) 100vw, 185px\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cA user came to me complaining that she could not get any of her documents to print. I went through the normal checks to make sure everything was functioning properly, which it was. I then determined that she had not logged on properly to the Novell network so her documents were not getting to the networked printer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cWithout her knowledge, I got her logged on, but before I printed anything, I thought I would have some fun with her. I asked her if she was familiar with the terms bits and bytes, and she said she was. I told her that her computer sends bytes of information through the network to the printer to be printed. But for some reason, there were a large number of bytes clogging the line to the printer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cWe then went over to the printer where I unplugged the network connection. I told her we had to let the bytes \u201cescape\u201d out of the line so it would be clear to print again. I plugged it back in, went to her machine and printed a document. She was amazed!<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">After that, whenever she had a problem, she asked me to come \u201cClean the lines again.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>#3 Self-Portrait<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cI work for a large UK retailer, who has just released a new tablet computer, providing technical support for the product. We\u2019re encouraged to keep customers on the line during the first time setup. This happens just at the start of the call, when selecting a wireless network to connect to.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c\u2018Okay, ma\u2019am. You\u2019ll now see a screen that says \u201cSelect Wi-Fi\u201d. Please find your home network connection and select it for me.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c\u2018Found it!\u2019 she replied. \u2018It\u2019s asking for my password, I\u2019ll just type that in\u2026 It says \u201cAuthenticating.\u201d Why is it saying that?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cThis always means the password was put in wrong. Usually it\u2019s because the customer\u2019s holding the tablet in landscape, and mistypes it.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c\u2018You might\u2019ve accidentally typed the password in wrong,\u2019 I informed her. \u2018Forget the network and try again. Might I ask how you\u2019re holding the tablet right now?\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c<i>*sigh*<\/i> \u2018Landscape,\u2019 she said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c\u2018Okay, if you could just hold it in portrait for me, just for this step.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>\u201c*<\/b><i>long pause*<\/i> \u2018\u2026How do I do that?\u2019 She inquired, frustration becoming apparent in her tone.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c\u2018Um\u2026 you turn it 90 degrees, ma\u2019am. So that the camera\u2019s on the side, instead of the top.\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201c<i>*longer pause*<\/i> \u2018This is too complicated for me! I told her that the printer is a black and white laser printer.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cShe said well the program said what you see is what you get.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cI told her again that the printer only prints in black and white.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cShe continued to blame the software and her computer and wanted someone to come take a look at it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\"><b>#5 Disk Read Error<\/b><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cIn the late 1980s I was working at a data center in the New York City area, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/coolest-photo-of-pa-server-monitor-in-action\/\" target=\"_blank\">supporting worldwide locations<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cI received a call from a user in London who was experiencing problems with one of the files on her system.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cI needed to see the content of the file, so I asked her to backup the file to a disk, make a copy and then FedEx it to me.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif;\">\u201cThe next day I received the package and was astounded to find an actual printed photocopy of the disk!
