The tablet has faced heavy criticism; that it\u2019s expensive<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">and non-intuitive, not to mention the widespread dislike of Windows 8.1. Considering the way the business sphere is beginning to lean towards BYOD<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">environments, cloud computing and remote workers, the rocky start must have rang warning bells for MS. The Surface wasn\u2019t just their foray into the tablet<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">market; it was also their platform for launching MS Office for tablets. Fortunately for businesses, there are still options for using Office on tablets. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Most notably through Microsoft\u2019s key competitor, Apple, and the iPad.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>What Do Tablets Do For My Business?<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">To put it simply, tablets give you:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul type=\"disc\">\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Mobility<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Flexibility<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Reach<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Immediacy<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Tablets can have a tremendous impact on your business, both in terms of mobility, costing and flexible workers. Add to that the relative cost of a tablet when compared to a laptop; not to mention the very small amount of space the tablet takes up on a<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">conventional workspace, and you\u2019ve got a business device with a huge amount of potential. The one disadvantage of the iPad was that, unless a business was already operating on Mac desktops and laptops, there was no obvious <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">program to work with on the iPad that was easily compatible with <a title=\"Will Office for iPad Kill Desktops?\" href=\"\/blog\/will-office-for-ipad-kill-desktops\/\">MS Office<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">There are plenty of third party apps that make it possible to transfer information from the iPad to Office, or indeed that just save in the same format.<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">However, they came with the security concerns that often attach themselves to third party programs. There\u2019s no doubt however, that Microsoft was aware of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">these third party apps, and wanted to keep them from becoming too popular.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Microsoft <a href=\"http:\/\/mspmentor.net\/cloud-computing\/microsoft-office-365-1-billion-reasons-you-cant-ignore-it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">made a billion dollars<img class=\"extlink-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/external-links-nofollow-open-in-new-tab-favicon\/images\/extlink.png\"><\/a> off of their<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Office 365 service this year alone. There\u2019s absolutely no way they want to lose that revenue stream. That\u2019s why a lot of focus has been turned onto the new<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">MS Office for iPad, and on the whole, it\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imore.com\/microsoft-office-ipad-review\" rel=\"nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">pretty good<img class=\"extlink-icon\" src=\"https:\/\/www.poweradmin.com\/blog\/wp-content\/plugins\/external-links-nofollow-open-in-new-tab-favicon\/images\/extlink.png\"><\/a>. Microsoft want to take a big chunk<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">out of the Apple pie when it comes to tablets, that\u2019s for sure, but they want to keep their Office revenue more. So if you saw the problems with Office for <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">the iPhone and were worried that the iPad version would be more of the same, think again.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><strong>Microsoft Offices<\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-2411 size-full\" title=\"Microsoft Office\" src=\"\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/06\/microsoft-office-20131.jpg\" alt=\"Microsoft Office\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\">While Apple has been making some headway in getting their computers implemented in office spaces, Microsoft still has the edge. And that, more than<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">anything, is the reason why MS Office still has a future in tablets. It\u2019s the software that most employees are familiar and comfortable with. There\u2019s an<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">established workflow in place within most businesses and the disruption that switching to new software could cause cannot be underestimated. That\u2019s why<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Microsoft\u2019s decision to release an Office program for Apple that isn\u2019t half-baked is a good thing; it opens up BYOD and remote working through the iPad <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">without requiring you to invest in a costly cloud infrastructure and remote desktop functionality.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Further more, Microsoft\u2019s latest subscription cloud offering, Office 365, includes access to the iPad apps in its subscription. So for businesses that have<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">already invested in Office 365, Office for iPad should be a no-brainer. Of course, if your business is hesitant to use Apple products. The iPad office app is<\/span> <span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">good, but it has its niggles that the desktop version doesn\u2019t. Pair that with new developments in cloud and there\u2019s no reason to worry that a move to a more tablet-based workforce will leave you scrambling to <\/span><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">find new software.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: tahoma,arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: 12pt;\">Microsoft knows how important Office is to its continued success, and any future versions of its software for tablet should only get better.
