Process Monitor

The Process monitor checks to see if a target process (that is, an instance of a program) is running or not. The process may be running locally, or remotely. PA Server Monitor can monitor both remote processes on Windows servers, via WMI, as well as processes on remote Unix/Linux/Solaris/etc servers, by using the SNMP protocol.

To monitor a process, create a monitor of type Process Monitor on the computer that is supposed to contain the process. You will see the dialog (as shown below) appear next.

The list "Current Running Processes" should quickly fill with a list of processes that are now running on the target machine. (If it does not, then credentials for WMI or SNMP are probably incorrect or missing.) Selecting a process name by clicking on it will cause that process name to be copied to "Process to Watch" text box.

If the process name does not appear in the list, and you wish to monitor it anyway, then you may type its name manually into the "Process to Watch" text box.

This monitor can be set so that the error state is considered to be the process not running, or it may be set so that the process running is considered the error state.

Like all monitors, this monitor has standard buttons on the right for Adding Actions, setting Advanced Monitor Options and setting the Monitor Schedule.
